Moving Servers
How to move your Honse Farm identity to a different server, and what to expect.
Why would I move?
There are a few common reasons to switch servers:
- Your server went offline and is not coming back, or has been down for an extended period
- Your server is shutting down and the operator has asked everyone to relocate
- You found a server closer to you (lower laty, better perfoencrmance)
- You want to join friends on a different server in the federation
Whatever the reason, the move process is built into the plugin and takes just a few minutes.
What transfers with me?
- Your pairs — all your direct pair connections come with you. The people you are paired with will see your identity update automatically on their end; they do not need to re-add you.
- Your group memberships — you stay in the groups you were a member of. Other members see the swap happen seamlessly.
- Your encryption keys — your existing keys are preserved, so your identity remains cryptographically yours.
Group ownership does not transfer
If you own a group, that group will not be transferred to your new server. Transfer group ownership to someone else before you move, or create a new group on your new server after the move.
How to move
The plugin has a built-in move wizard. Open it in-game with /hf move. It walks you through seven steps:
Step 0 — Introduction
The wizard shows your current server and explains what will happen. Read through it so there are no surprises.
Step 1 — How it works
A quick overview of the process: your keys are kept, you get a new UID on the target server, and your pairs and groups follow you.
Step 2 — Disconnect
You disconnect from your current server. This is required before you can connect elsewhere.
Step 3 — Pick a server
You see a list of all servers in the federation. Browse and select the one you want to move to.
Step 4 — Review and send
The wizard loads your most recent backup file and shows a summary of how many pairs and group memberships will be transferred. Once you confirm, it sends a signed move request to the target server.
Step 5 — Verify your identity
You will need to do revalidation of your character on the lodestone. This is the same verification used when you first registered.
Step 6 — Done
Your new account is created on the target server. You receive a new UID and a new 12-word secret passphrase. Make sure to save it — this replaces your old passphrase. Your pairs and group memberships are migrated, and everyone you were paired with is notified of the change.
What happens on the other end?
After your move completes:
- On your new server: any users there who were already paired with you (as a remote user) will might see a short blip in syncing with you.
- On other federation servers: users who are paired with you see your identity update to your new server. Again, no action needed — their plugin handles it automatically.
- On your old server: nothing happens. The old server is not contacted during the move, which means you can move even if your old server is offline. If the server is online, it will be notified of your move and you are essentially removed from their system.
Frequently asked questions
Do my pairs need to re-add me?
No. Your pairs are updated automatically on all servers. Everyone sees the transition happen without lifting a finger.
Will I lose my mods or customizations?
The move transfers your identity, pairs, and group memberships. Your local mod files on your computer are untouched — they stay right where they are.
Can I move back to my old server later?
Yes. You can move again at any time using the same process.
What if I own a group?
Group ownership does not transfer. Hand ownership to another member before you move, or create a new group on your new server afterward.
How long does it take?
The actual move takes a few minutes. Most of that time is waiting for the Lodestone verification.
What if the move fails or I close the game halfway through?
Move requests that are not completed within 60 minutes are automatically marked as failed and cleaned up. You can simply start a new move attempt.
